Ketamine Infusion Therapy in Franklin, TN

At the Tennessee Ketamine and Wellness Center, we give HOPE to patients who have not responded to other treatments for the common conditions below. In addition to the Nashville, TN, area, patients travel nationwide to receive ketamine infusion therapy at the Tennessee Ketamine and Wellness Center.

What Is Ketamine?

Ketamine is an anesthetic drug that has been safely administered by anesthesiologists since 1970. Over the past 20 years, physicians have learned that ketamine can be used to treat a variety of conditions including:

  • Major depression
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Anxiety and/or OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)
  • Chronic pain
  • And More

How We Are Different

Our anesthesiologists will safely titrate your dose upwards to maximize the likelihood of a positive response using most commonly one-hour infusions for mental health indications and four-hour infusions for chronic pain or opioid dependence indications.

Many patients for whom ketamine is effective in reducing pain are able to reduce the number of pain medications they need to take, and some can entirely eliminate their dependence on opioid pain medicines. Learn more about what makes us different.

How Does Ketamine Work?

Ketamine can work in three different ways to effectively treat pain and depression.

  • It increases the amount of glutamate in the nervous system, which is an excitatory amino acid and neurotransmitter. This increases neuro connections so that the brain and spinal cord process pain in a healthier way, which also decreases depression.
  • It resets pain receptors. With chronic pain, these receptors are turned on all the time. Ketamine quiets them down.
  • It decreases the inflammation in the nervous system that contributes to pain and depression.

Ketamine Infusion Treatment
Requires A Series of Visits
To The Center

Tennessee Ketamine and Wellness Center offers several options for ketamine infusion administration: intravenous (IV) infusion, intramuscular (IM) injection, and nasal spray, which are both administered on-site at the center over a series of visits. In addition to Ketamine, we offer NAD infusions and other types of supplements to support your overall well-being.

Tennessee Ketamine Infusion Team

Our medical doctors provide ketamine infusions with safety and patient comfort as our top priority.

Every patient undergoes a comprehensive evaluation by an anesthesiologist, who closely oversees their individual care. Our team has significant experience developing highly effective ketamine infusion protocols while minimizing side effects.

Our staff provides support and comfort to patients. We fully explain each procedure so patients know what to expect. Treatment is constantly monitored by a nurse to ensure safety, and an anesthesiologist is always on-site and immediately available.

Dr. Malchow served as an anesthesiologist for 25 years in the armed forces before retiring as a colonel in 2008. He then became an associate professor at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, where he was the first Vanderbilt physician to offer intensive ketamine infusion therapy in 2014. In 2015, he established one of the few ketamine infusion centers (KIC) in the Veteran Health Administration and the only KIC in the U.S. specifically targeting opioid cessation/reduction.

He is an acknowledged U.S. expert on ketamine administration, having presented his extensive experience with ketamine in the veteran population at the American Society of Ketamine Physicians in 2018 and has given multiple lectures regarding the use of ketamine to national audiences in 2021. Dr. Malchow has published over 20 peer-reviewed journal articles and serves regularly on worldwide medical missions supporting those in need.

Dr. Malchow is honored to serve as the Medical Director for the Tennessee Ketamine & Wellness Center to provide compassionate and competent care for those suffering from depression, PTSD, OCD, chronic pain, and opioid dependence.

What Makes Us Different

  • First, board-certified anesthesiologists with decades of experience in ketamine administration lead our team. We believe that a team led by physician anesthesiologists is best suited to provide comprehensive medical management of your condition, to safely administer ketamine and other anesthetic medications, and to implement a complete wellness plan to improve your overall quality of life.
  • Second, we are able to use propofol sedation when necessary during the ketamine infusion in order to minimize any risk of unpleasant side effects.
  • Third, in order to maximize safety, we maximize comprehensive physiologic monitoring on every patient.
  • Fourth, a Registered Nurse with critical care experience provides undivided attention and professional care to each individual patient.
  • Fifth, our unique protocol for relief of chronic pain was developed to maximize results; our center is one of the few in the state of Tennessee to offer these more complex treatments to our patients.
  • Sixth, our center was the first practice in the U.S. to offer extremely effective treatment specifically aimed at opioid reduction or cessation (not simply opioid maintenance) and the first center in Tennessee to offer a specific, comprehensive plan for alcohol dependence.
  • Finally, in addition to ketamine infusions, we are a wellness center focusing on a holistic approach to your health and well-being. We believe that with this combined effort, the Tennessee Ketamine and Wellness Center will have better results including greater and longer relief in a safer environment with fewer side effects than other infusion centers. Our physicians will prescribe an individualized wellness plan for you to maximize the likelihood of your responding to treatment and maintaining that response long-term.
